Today… we must have used the word “old” for at least a hundred times.

I seriously have not talked this much in a shoot for a long long time.
I don’t know if the previous shoot counts.
I was pretty much sleep mumbling. Lol..
But this.
This was a good chat. Lol..
Oh ya. I’ll be honest.
Initial plan for the shoot was for it to be some dark flashy concert style.
With a mic and the works. Then I realized the mistake.
We set the shoot too early. Lol!
I couldn’t drown out the outside light. -.-”
And when I did, my flash couldn’t compensate for it anymore.
Quickly changed plans. And instead, worked with whatever light I can find.

Today… I had 16 emptied batteries. None left to power my flash.
.
It’s a sad story really.
I have a habit. I keep newly charged batteries in boxes.
And used or emptied batteries out of the box.
Went to this shoot with a box full of batteries.
But the moment I start shooting, 4 just died off after another.
Switched batteries. Fires 2~3 rounds. And stops responding again.
Batteries lasted me only the first two cosplayers.
After that, I just had to shoot away.
Regardless of how the flash would sometimes fire.
Sometimes not.
And even when it did fire, it’s some half-arsed choked up sorry excuse of light.
MOOOD KILLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
Anyway.. reflecting on it later.
I’m pretty sure it’s because my batteries have been around for 3 years (rechargables)
And the fact that I’ve not used them for months. Despite being fully charged the last time I touched them.
Lesson of the day…
Charge your batteries EVEN if you have not used them since the last time you charged.
Well.. depending on how long was the last time you used them.
They say that doing that might kill your battery.
But Hey!!
I would have rather killed the batteries than to have such a big slip-up during a shoot!

Would like to shift focus on to studios, something indoors.
That would really test my creativity now would it.

Somewhere I can setup my lights and leave it.

2012.10.21.Butterflies
Today.. I count the number of years since I last visited the Kuala Lumpur Butterfly park.
And it has been a lot. Lol.
Barely remembered a thing from my last visit. But I believe there hasn’t been much change.

The 50mm is quickly becoming my main lens.
Been lugging it around for casual outings since it’s the lightest.
Having said that. I still prefer the 2470cz for studio setups. Mainly cause u’d be going f4 anyway. -.-”
Biggest regret of the day… was not bringing my 70200 along.. oTL
I didn’t bring it along initially knowing that even at 200mm I still wouldn’t be able to take a decent “close-up” compared to the other 2 lens.
What I didn’t think of, was that at 200mm, I could try to catch shots of the butterflies flying. In motion. Wings fluttering.
70mm didn’t give me enough distance to not creep out the butterflies. Scaring them off.
Every photo you see here, is majorly cropped. Lol!
In the original photos, the butterflies would probably make up for just 3% of the photo..
You wouldn’t be able to see jack unless I released the full resolution photo. LOL!
Oh.. And a little tip for aspiring insect shooters.
I took all my photos composing the butterflies dead center of my viewfinder. Knowing that I would crop them later on during post-process.
I don’t know if it’s the psyche in me talking or technically true, but I find focusing at the center tends to be faster and more accurate.
Especially if you are using prime. Lol..
Anyway.. test it out and see if it helps..
