Animes, Photography and everything in between… Pfft..

Gunslinger Girl Il Teatrino. klux looks. Ningyo = doll, NOT Ning-Yo. Will miss you Weng.

Once again will have to thank Yi. Why? 4 words… Gunslinger Girl Il Teatrino. I’ll also be borrowing a few ‘BAMS’ from Glo. -.-“

Gunslinger Girl Il Teatrino

It took a few episodes, but I finally managed to dwell myself into the anime. By then, the “lower” quality animation no longer has a hold on me. instead I got more interested in the story played each episode. Feeling swill reach you with certainty at the end of each episode. Only question is how much?

Unfortunately for me, not much. Or rather, not enough. Yes, I did feel a bit of sorrow and despair; The thirst for affection and love; and many other emotions; How the girls see and tried to understand the relationship between them and their handlers. And at times, the rest of the world.

But it wasn’t anything new for an anime. Any anime fan would have already experienced all above mentioned emotions plenty of times from different series. So, I sat through episodes 1 to 12, juggling between na 3-Stars and 4-Stars rating.

3-stars because it did felt like any other anime out there, almost a little “Myeh…”

4-Stars because I was enjoying the anime and it did bring about a diverse set of emotions.
.
.

Then episode 13 came…
BAMM! Franco, Franca, Christiano.
BAMMM BAMM! Triela Vs Pinnochio.
BAMMM BAMM and BAMMMx5! This song started playing.
Human by Lia

5-Stars, no question asked. Episode 13, the final episode itself brought the whole series into conclusion. It was not great, not awesome but it was beautiful. Yes… beautiful would be a good word for the anime. It’s not about guns and the action. It never has been for il Teatrino.
.
.

Now, I’m actually glad that I dropped it last time. Knowing myself, I would surely dislike the anime if I actually did completed it previously, being the shounen fan that I was.
.
.

And the music fits in with the anime like peanut butter on bread. Every (or most) episode starts with a short scene of the past. The scene is framed with surrounding black borders and blended in faded sepia.

Here, viewers gets a glimpse of a character’s history. Upon understanding a little of where they came from, the opening theme starts.

Tatta Hitosu no Omoi

After the theme leaves an impact, the episode continues. Etc. etc. etc. Viewers gets a feast on emotions. And the episode ends with yet another beautiful aspect of the series, the ending theme.
Doll by Lia

The episodes were excellently laid out. the script was well-written. It wasn’t anything eye-popping but it knew what it wanted to do and focused well on it. And the storytelling was slow and steady. Thinking about it now, every aspect of il Teatrino was hell-bent on conveying heart wrenching notions to viewers. Oh what the heck! This should have been a 5-Stars from early on.

Oh! And guess what guys! No fillers *thumbs up* Surprisingly.

So, Klux was wondering how I think she looks like. Well, it’s a little hard since I’ve seen a picture of her somewhere. Xp
So any image I have of her has definitely been influenced. But still, I wanted to give it a try. Turned my brain off for a minute, Power it back up the next. Immediately think ‘klux’ and ‘face’ and voila. An image popped right in.

Cal from Phantom

This is how I would have thought she looks like if I have not seen her picture.
But if I take her real looks into consideration, I would choose the following instead.

Yomiko from R.O.D.

Call me slow or whatever, But listening to the above song, Doll by Lia countless times had me realize that Ningyo’s alias actually meant human doll. Woah!! *enlightened*
Having finish Gunslinger Girl, I’m really wondering what reasons compelled him to chose such a nick. The thing was, I’ve always think of Ning-Yo (as in a regular name) instead. Lol.

The higher section of this post has been drafted since last week. So all I needed to do was post it.
The following part however is a quick and short addition.

Sorry for being missing for the past week. One of my closest friend past away. Been like a brother to me for the past 19 years. He is only freaking 29! Was already engaged and holding the wedding ceremony in March 2010. Had so many thing going for him.

Fark the world!

I didn’t feel like blogging. Or doing anything for that matter. All the crying has made my throat hurt, my head hurt, my eyes hurt, my nose hurt, but nothing can compare to how much my heart hurts.

Fark you Weng, for making me cry like a bitch… In farking public at that.
Fark you, for now making this post sound cheesy!
Fark you Weng, for leaving without even saying goodbye!

Wayne Loke, you will be greatly missed… Fag!
Brothers always…

Edit: Fark you man… for making me cry again..!

  5. I lol’d so fucking hard when I saw the characterization of me. I haven’t seen Phantom so I don’t have a fucking clue what our similarities are. Care to elaborate? And I do know Yomiko. This time I’m on the floor, you guess right, laughing my ass off XD

but then I get to your last insert and I feel bad for laughing so hard. Condolences, blur

  6. I’m wholeheartedly sorry to hear that and hope you feel alright now.
About Klux, I think Cal looks a bit too feminine for Klux. The fierceness is okay though. It’s just my imagination cause I’ve never seen Klux’s photo 🙂

    • hehe yeah I kinda lol because she doesn’t look like me at all. But the fierceness might explained it XD

  8. See, you’re doing just fine attributing characters to bloggers 🙂 Go ahead and write that post.

First things first, my condolences for your loss. I haven’t myself been touched by a loved one passing away for many years, so I can’t be conceited and say I sympathize, but I definitely empathize from over here.

I remember you calling me ning-yo at some point – I didn’t mind it and sorta unconsciously decided not to care because it sounded pretty cool xD I never even knew there was a name like that o.o
I guess I really should update my about page with why I chose this name one day… I’ll give a pointer in a post if I ever do.

  9. I’ve been on episode 5 of this show for about 8 years (it’s not even that old, but you get what I mean). God I need to watch it.

Thanks to you I ended up watching several OVAs, including Akikan and some others I can’t remember. OVAs tend to suck I feel like.

Im now enticed to watch Gunslinger girl now. NEVER watched it because of its horribly cheesy name but now after reading your review I can look past that. I always wondered what klux might look like think i might give it a try(evil thoughts wuhahaha). My Condolences to your friend Blur.

  11. Wow, three very different things in a single post! Here’s condolences for your friend first and foremost. Hope you are feeling better by now 🙂

Then, great review. Your summary of the final episode is precisely the kind of thing that suckers me so I’m gonna give this show a go some time despite the unimaginative title. I mean, Gunslinger Girl just sounded so Shounen-ish, but now that you’ve explicitly stated that it isn’t (mostly), I’m interested!

And finally, thanks for linking to my place! B)

  12. Yi

I think you already my know my opinions on this anime.
I agree that the last two episodes were wonderful climaxes to this amazing anime, and is really what brought the whole series to life.
    Great review!

Condolences to your loss of a great friend. I sincerely hope you feel better.

  13. Sorry for making everyone worry. I’m doing better now, and think it’s time for me to start blogging again.

    @Canne
It’s the ferocity Cal has which reminds me klux actually. Determined to kill someone even in doubt of own reasoning. Or along those lines.. -.-“
